Senator Drazkowski statement on passage of bills to allow felon voting, provide driver’s licenses to illegal aliens

Today Senate Democrats made their public safety priorities clear by passing bills that give convicted felons on probation the right to vote no matter their crime and allow illegal aliens the right to a driver’s license with no protections for our elections or national security.

Senator Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) issued the following statement following the passage of the two bills:

“Today Democrats passed their first two public safety priorities: letting criminals vote and providing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. It shows a complete disrespect for the rules we have all agreed to and rewards criminal behavior.

“The Driver’s License for Illegal Immigrants bill is a dangerous piece of legislation that poses a serious threat to national security and puts our elections at risk. Democrats rejected every common-sense fix we offered for these flaws, including clearly distinguishing them from legal licenses. What we are left with is an extreme bill that is risky for Minnesotans.

“Giving felons the right to vote before they have completed their sentence is a huge mistake. Parole is not something to be taken lightly. It is a crucial part of an offender’s sentence and a necessary step in repaying their debt to society. Criminals should only have their rights restored once they have fully completed their sentence.”

“It is another sad day in Minnesota under Democrat rule. Today, they once again prioritized the rights of criminals over the rights of law-abiding citizens and the rule of law.”
