Minnesota Senate honors Col. Matt Langer’s service as head of state patrol

The Minnesota Senate on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution honoring Colonel Matt Langer for his nearly 25 years of exemplary service with the Minnesota State Patrol, including the last 10 years as its chief.

Senate Resolution 80, introduced by Sen. John Jasinski (R-Faribault), highlights several of Col. Langer’s key achievements while leading the State Patrol:

  • Growing an internal peer support team and re-establishing a chaplaincy program to support troopers
  • Advancing the patrol’s crash reconstruction expertise
  • Focusing enforcement on preventing fatal crashes through initiatives targeting street racing and HEAT patrols against speeding and criminal activity, helping make Minnesota roads the 3rd safest in the nation

Col. Langer is one of the most respected and trusted leaders Minnesota has had,” said Sen. Jasinski. “He would always give you a straight answer, no matter how it would make you feel. I have greatly valued our working relationship, and I know Minnesota will miss his professionalism, integrity, kindness, and commitment to doing the right thing.”

After nearly 25 years rising through the ranks of the State Patrol, Col. Langer is departing Minnesota to become the director of global policing for the International Association of Chiefs of Police based in Virginia.
