(St. Paul, MN) – I am happy to announce that the 2021 Senate internship program, which has run for over 40 years, is open for applications. Covid-19 distancing guidelines mean that interns for the 2021 legislative session will operate remotely. This change will not compromise the highly valuable skills and experience gained from working at the Senate, and I highly encourage college students from District 30 to apply.

The bright college students who are chosen to intern are certain to finish the legislative season with a working knowledge of government, a larger network of contacts, and an expanded bag of skills that will make them competitive as they enter the job market. Many college programs require an internship for graduation and working for the Senate is truly a unique experience to fill that requirement. Real-world skills are vital and enriching for our young people, and I have happily employed many interns over the course of my elected years.

Depending on the office they are assigned to, an intern may handle constituent correspondence, monitor committees, and track legislation. They will work in direct contact with office staff and will end the session with an understanding of the legislative calendar and inner workings of government.

Applications are available on the Senate website starting Oct. 22. The deadline is Nov. 5, 2020. The Senate program is not limited to political science or similar majors, so anyone who is interested should apply.

As we look to the future generation and all they have to offer, I look forward to meeting this year’s interns!
