Statement from Senator Keri Heintzeman on Governor Walz's decision to not seek reelection

“Governor Walz’s decision not to seek reelection is good news for Minnesota. Last week, I said it was time for him to step aside because our state needs accountability, honesty, and leadership that puts people first. His decision moves Minnesota in the right direction.

“But Minnesotans should be clear about one thing. Stepping aside does not erase the damage done, and it does not end the need for accountability. Governor Walz and his administration still owe Minnesota taxpayers clear answers about the years of failed leadership, unchecked fraud, and a culture where too few people were held responsible.

“Minnesotans have paid a heavy price. Families, seniors, students, and taxpayers deserve better than excuses and delays. We deserve real consequences for wrongdoing, recovery of misused funds where possible, and serious reforms that prevent this from happening again.

“This is a chance for our state to turn the page and restore trust in government, but trust will not be restored until accountability is real. Minnesota deserves leadership that takes responsibility seriously, and a government that finally proves it can protect taxpayer dollars.”
