Senator Rasmusson: Minnesotans should stand with Israel

Friends and neighbors,

I recently attended a community event at Beth El Synagogue in St. Louis Park, where thousands of Minnesotans–including Jewish community leaders and state officials–gathered in solidarity with the nation and people of Israel.

It was heartbreaking to hear about the magnitude of the Hamas terrorist attacks on the 9 million Israeli people. From the stories shared at the gathering, the attacks have personally impacted Minnesota’s entire Jewish community. Everyone knows someone directly affected.

At the event, Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Minnesota and the Dakotas, shared a staggering fact: the recent terrorist attacks are the largest mass murder of Jewish civilians since the Holocaust.

Our nation made a promise to never forget the horrors of the Holocaust. Hamas has shown no interest in pursuing a peaceful solution, and it’s clear that their goal is to destroy Israel and the Jewish people. That is why Minnesotans, and all Americans, should stand with Israel and strongly acknowledge their right to exist.

In response to what’s happening in Israel, we’ve recently seen outrageous examples of antisemitism. It is also important for us to reject this in all forms.

I stand with the people of Israel, and my heart goes out to all the victims and their loved ones. I am praying for peace and a swift end to this violence.

Take Action

The JCRC put together a list of resources to support their community during this horrific time. I invite you to learn about how you can help the people of Israel. This is a dynamic situation, and the JCRC will continue to update this page as events develop.
