State Senator Mark Koran  (R – North Branch) returned to the capitol this Tuesday for the convening of the 2020 Legislative Session.  This session, Republican legislators will prioritize the funding of Minnesota’s roads and bridges, strategies to support honest voting, school safety, and the exemption of social security income tax for seniors in the state.

“Since I was elected to the Senate, we have achieved the first middle-class income tax cut in nearly two decades, the largest investment in roads and bridges since 2008, and a halved social security income tax to put millions back into the hands of seniors,” said Senator Koran. “These are obviously successes, and we want to build on those this session.  I, and my Republican colleagues, are prepared to fight for an honest, efficient government that will use every tax dollar responsibly.” 

As this is the second year in the biennium, the 2020 session will be focused on bonding.  After months of touring the state, the legislature will decide on fiscal distribution to projects throughout Minnesota.  Roads, bridges, and wastewater treatment projects will be considered for inclusion in this year’s bonding bill. 

Sen. Koran concluded, “I’m optimistic as we head into this session. The Senate Republicans have laid a foundation of responsibility that will support families, and now we have the chance to focus on not only on the state budget, but on issues such as school safety and good voting practices. I see this as a great opportunity.” 

Senator Koran continues to serve on the State Government Finance and Policy and Elections Committee, the Commerce and Consumer Protection Finance and Policy Committee, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, Family Care and Aging Committee, and the Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Legacy Committee.
