Senator Jeremy Miller urges MnDOT to gather more public input before final design on roundabouts

Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) today called on the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to provide a status update and gather more public input before proceeding to the final design phase of a new roundabout at Highway 43 and Highway 61 in Winona. The final design phase is scheduled to begin this fall.

“One of the issues I’m hearing about most right now from Winona residents is MnDOT’s proposal to build a series of roundabouts at and near Highway 43 and 61. I’m hearing about it at the store, the park, at the doors, and at the scrap yard. Before beginning the final design phase of the project, I strongly encourage MnDOT to schedule additional public meetings to provide a status update on the project and to gather more feedback directly from residents.

“It’s clear that people have passionate feelings about this, but they don’t feel like they have an outlet to effectively voice their concerns. I hope MnDOT will provide further opportunities for involvement so they can get an accurate sense of the public’s feelings about the project. It would also be a great opportunity for people to hear from MnDOT on why they feel this project is important.”
