Senator Jason Rarick: Historic Surplus Shows Minnesotans Overtaxed, Creates Opportunity to Provide Meaningful Relief

(St. Paul, MN) The office of Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) released its annual November economic forecast on Tuesday. The report, which details the state’s budget picture, projected a record-setting surplus of $17.6 billion.

“Today’s historic budget indicates the strength Minnesota’s financial health, but shows the state is collecting far more in taxes than it needs to. As the government’s bottom line continues to balloon, Minnesotans continue to struggle. This session, Minnesota needs to focus on helping families and small businesses. That means committing to permanent ongoing tax relief, reigning in government growth, and focusing on proven programs that help the residents of this state. “

“When the session begins we will see if the Democratic priorities will be to give hard-working Minnesotans tax relief, or if they will be drastically increasing the state budget while family budgets are shrinking.”
