Senator Ingebrigtsen Responds to Ramsey County Attorney’s choice not to prosecute felony cases

Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen released the following statement regarding Ramsey County Attorney John Choi’s recent announcement that he will “no longer prosecute most felony cases arising from low-level traffic stops.”

“Who does County Attorney Choi’s decision really benefit?” Senator Ingebrigtsen asked. “It certainly isn’t the county, victims of crime, or the people in local communities. It is exclusively criminals. As Choi moves to allow crime to run rampant and unpenalized, all his action will do is put additional people at risk. As the county attorney, it is your duty to prosecute the law and ensure that justice is blind. It’s not your job to become a partisan arbitrator who makes their own rules for right and wrong.”

“As the Twin Cities continue to face a drastic rise in violent crime due to the Defund the Police movement, our priority should be solely focused on reducing crime and protecting of the residents of Minnesota, not on misguided notions that will only exacerbate the situation.”
