State Senator Carla Nelson (R-Rochester) will serve as the chair of the Senate Taxes Committee when the new legislative session begins in January, the Senate announced today. Senator Nelson is currently chair of the Education Finance and Policy Committee and served on the Tax Committee in the 88th and 89th legislative sessions.
“I am honored and excited to become chairwoman of the Senate Tax Committee,” said Sen. Nelson. “Sound tax policy is essential to helping Minnesotans and ensuring our economy recovers quickly and safely from the COVID pandemic shutdowns. Our economy was flourishing prior to the coronavirus outbreak, but now there are many workers and small businesses who right on the edge of survival. They can’t afford any tax increases. In fact, even with a predicted challenging budget situation, I am hopeful we can find room for some targeted tax relief to help these folks make it through to the other side of the pandemic.”
