Senator Bruce Anderson: Congratulations to local Century Farm recipient!

Friends and neighbors,

The Minnesota Farm Bureau, in partnership with the Minnesota State Fair, recently announced the 2024 Century and Sesquicentennial Farms. This program recognizes farms that have been in continuous ownership by a family for at least 100 years (Century Farm) or at least 150 years (Sesquicentennial Farm). The farms must also be at least 50 acres in size and are currently involved in agricultural production.

In our community, the Elwood F. Ledin Farm in Buffalo, which started in 1923, is recognized as a Century Farm.Congratulations and thank you for your many contributions to our community and state! Family-owned farms, such as the Elwood F. Ledin Farm, are the heart of our state’s vibrant agricultural heritage.

Receiving the Century Farm honor is a momentous achievement, signifying a family’s commitment to preserving their land and way of life across multiple generations. Since the program began back in 1976, over 11,000 Minnesota farms have earned this distinguished recognition.

Recipients receive an outdoor sign designating the farm as a “Century Farm” or “Sesquicentennial Farm” and a certificate signed by the governor of Minnesota and presidents of the Minnesota Farm Bureau and the Minnesota State Fair. Information on the farm recipients will be available at the Minnesota Farm Bureau exhibit during the State Fair.

Alyssa Young named District 29 winner of annual Senate art competition

Last fall, the Minnesota Senate invited K-12 students throughout the state to submit photos or drawings that highlight life in their community. One artwork per Senate District was recently chosen to hang in the Minnesota Senate Building for the rest of 2024.

In District 29, Alyssa Young, a seventh-grade student from Monticello, was named this year’s winner of the Senate’s My District, My Minnesota art competition.

Congratulations to Alyssa on being selected for this year’s My District, My Minnesota art competition! This is an amazing representation of our community, showcasing our beautiful lakes and farmland and the amazing Wright County Fair. It is a privilege to display your artwork in the Senate Building!
