Senate Higher Education Committee chairman to visit Pine Technical and Community College as part of statewide workforce development tour

Minnesota Senate Higher Education Committee Chairman Paul Anderson (R-Plymouth) will visit Pine Technical and Community College Thursday as part of a statewide workforce development tour to learn more about local public-private partnerships between Minnesota employers, high schools, and colleges. With a looming workforce shortage, more Minnesota employers than ever before are getting engaged in public-private training programs to train their employees. The tour will highlight success stories throughout the state, where employers and education providers have partnered to educate and train the next generation of Minnesotans for successful, in-demand careers.

“Pine Technical and Community College is near and dear to my heart, and I’m thrilled they can be an example for workforce development for the rest of the state,” said Sen. Jason Rarick (R-Brook Park). “Our economy is in desperate need of skilled workers, and not only is PTCC one of the best schools to prepare students for careers in in-demand fields, but they’ve also done a fantastic job at connecting students with local companies.”

The visit will begin at 11:00 am at Pine Technical College and will feature a tour of the campus and a discussion on the numerous business-education partnership programs that the college coordinates.

PTCC has been a leader in demonstrating how to successfully engage area businesses, including how they leveraged state funding and local businesses to take full advantage of the Workforce Development Scholarship Program, which incents students to enter high-growth, high-demand career training.
