Senate extends previously scheduled Easter Recess to protect public from COVID-19 spread

On Sunday evening, the Minnesota Senate majority reached an agreement with leaders in the legislature to extend the regularly scheduled legislative Spring break for an additional three weeks to contribute to efforts to flatten the curve of the spread of COVID-19. Beginning Tuesday, March 17, the House and Senate will alter their operations and temporarily suspend legislative business.

“We will remain focused on our primary constitutional responsibility – the security, benefit and protection of the people,” said Senator Bruce Anderson (R-Buffalo). “At this time, we have passed funding for healthcare and provisions for the near future. Upon recommendation from the federal government, Center for Disease Control, Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner, and the Governor, we will temporarily pause our legislative work to minimize contact, but we will remain to serve and respond as needed from our home offices.”

Senators and staff will be available to work and meet with constituents in accordance with recommendations from the Center for Disease Control. The Capitol and Senate office building will generally be closed to the public, but meetings will still take place by appointment. Upon their return, the Senate will resume conduct important business before our constitutional adjournment date of May 18, 2020.

Constituents who have concerns or questions are encouraged to direct them to Senator Anderson’s office at 651.296.5981 orsen.bruce.anderson@senate.mn.
