Senator Andrew Lang (R–Olivia) released the following statement:
“I’m deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of our colleague, and my friend, Senator Bruce Anderson. Bruce was as solid as they come. He was genuinely kind and caring. He was a voice of reason and advocacy. In the Senate, he was a steady voice and principled in his work and values. We immediately found a common bond with our shared military service and familiar backgrounds. He and I often worked together on veterans’ and military issues. The years he spent as chair and I as a member of the Veterans Committee were a roadmap of how things should work at the capital. He was a mentor, a friend, and a statesman. I will miss Bruce's voice, I will miss our hallway conversations, and his presence at the Capitol will be impossible to replace. I wish to offer my deepest condolences and prayers for his wife, kids, and the entire Anderson family. Thanks for everything Bruce!"
A summary of Senator Anderson’s public service career follows.
Bruce Anderson (R–Buffalo) began his legislative career in the Minnesota House in 1995, representing District 19B, and later District 19A through 2012. He was elected to the Minnesota Senate for District 29 in 2012 and served until his passing on July 21, 2025.
Throughout his tenure in the Legislature, Anderson has focused on key issues like agriculture, energy, rural economic development, broadband access, and public safety. He chaired the various Veterans’ committees in the House from 2011-2012 and again in the Senate from 2017 to 2020.
Before entering politics, Anderson served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and in the Minnesota Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force Reserves.
