Sen. Keri Heintzeman takes oath of office

Keri Heintzeman, a small business owner and mother of six from Nisswa, was sworn in Tuesday as the newest member of the Minnesota Senate. She won a special election on April 29 to represent District 6, which includes parts of Cass, Crow Wing, and Itasca counties. Sen. Heintzeman takes office with just two weeks remaining in the legislative session, as lawmakers race toward a May 19 adjournment deadline.

“I’m deeply grateful to the people of Senate District 6 for trusting me to be their voice in the Senate,” Sen. Heintzeman said. “I’ve run a business, raised a family, and dealt with the same challenges Minnesotans have been facing every day. That’s the perspective I’ll bring to St. Paul — practical, grounded, and focused on what actually matters to people.”

Sen. Heintzeman and her husband, Josh, who serves in the Minnesota House of Representatives, run a recreational rental business in Nisswa, where they raised their six children.

Committee assignments for the remainder of the 2025-2026 session will be announced soon.
