Legislative Update: Democrat Senator Charged with Felony Burglary

On Monday, Senator Nicole Mitchell (D-Woodbury) was arrested and charged in Becker County for felony burglary. Detroit Lakes Police found Mitchell, fleeing back to her stepmother’s basement at 4:45 am where she had entered through a window, after her stepmother tripped over Mitchell on the floor next to her bed. The criminal complaint shows Mitchell took many steps to prepare to commit this crime.

This premeditated act is unprecedented for an elected official, especially one who is:

  • A licensed Attorney
  • A State Senator
  • A lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard

All of these require her to abide by an extremely high level of ethical conduct. To no one’s surprise, Democrats have refused to hold Mitchell accountable for her actions by failing to remove her from committees and failing to call for her resignation.

Republicans have filed an ethics complaint against Sen. Mitchell for her disturbing actions. Minnesotans expect more from their elected officials, and her behavior is unbecoming of a State Senator. She has violated the trust of her voters, and it’s time for her to resign!
