Friends and neighbors,
On Wednesday, I, along with my Senate Republican colleagues, brought forward and successfully passed greatly needed improvements to Minnesota’s Earned Sick and Safe Time law. Small business owners, family farms, and employers across Minnesota have been struggling under the one-size-fits-all mandate that Democrats passed in 2023. The mandate simply doesn’t reflect the realities and challenges of running a small (or ultra-small) business. Even though this wasn’t a fix-all, it is certainly a good start.
We made two key changes:
- First, we exempted farms with five or fewer employees and small businesses with three or fewer employees from the ESST mandate.
- Second, we made it easier for employers to request documentation for sick time.
These are reasonable, common-sense changes that still protect workers while easing the burden on our smallest employers.
If you have any questions about this bill or anything else happening in St Paul, please do not hesitate to ask. I look forward to serving you!
Sincerely,
