Draheim statement on Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra’s retirement

On Wednesday, Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra announced he would retire when his contract expires next August. Senator Rich Draheim (R-Madison Lake) issued the following statement:

“I want to thank Chancellor Malhotra for his long and distinguished career in service of Minnesota’s students. He tried to retire once before, but stayed on to lead the Minnesota State when we needed him most – ever the statesman, putting others before himself. I enjoyed working with him greatly; his warmth, compassion, and commitment to students was evident in every conversation. It is not a coincidence that he is so universally respected in higher education circles. He has earned his retirement and then some. Congratulations, Chancellor. We are grateful.”

Malhotra previously served as the provost at St. Cloud State University and the interim president of Metropolitan State University. When he retires next year, he will have served six years as chancellor of the 33 colleges and universities that make up the Minnesota state college and university system.

Minnesota State consists of 26 colleges and 7 universities with 54 campuses throughout the state and offers 3,885 academic programs.
