Bipartisan infrastructure bill now law – includes critical transportation funding championed by Sen. Newman

On Wednesday, May 30th the Governor signed into law the Minnesota Legislature’s “brick and mortar” infrastructure bill that included $544 million in vital transportation funding championed by Senator Scott Newman [R-Hutchinson], Chairman of the Senate Transportation Finance and Policy Committee.

“I’m tremendously pleased the Governor signed into law the legislature’s infrastructure bill, which included critically needed resources for Minnesota’s roads and bridges,” said Senator Newman. “This builds upon the legislature’s historic investments in transportation infrastructure last session by prioritizing our statewide needs.”

The bill includes over $83 million for local road and bridge improvements, and $400 million for Corridors of Commerce projects that are balanced between Metro and Greater Minnesota.

“Included in this bill is the critical four-lane expansion of Highway 23 between Willmar and St. Cloud,” added Senator Newman. “Projects like these not only improve the safety of our roads, but strengthen vital arteries of commerce for our state. By our continued investment into the future of our state, we will improve Minnesota’s commerce and quality of life for generations to come.”

Senator Scott Newman is in his third term representing Senate District 18, which includes communities in McLeod, Meeker, Sibley, and Wright counties. He also serves as chair of the Senate Transportation Finance and Policy Committee.
