Friends and neighbors, This week at the Capitol, Senate Republicans announced our Affordability Plan, a package of bills that will deliver broad tax relief to Minnesotans. The affordability crisis is hitting families hard. We’re seeing higher costs to stay on the road and stay in our homes while keeping less of our paychecks. Our proposals are targeted at reducing taxes and letting you keep more of what you earn. Key elements include:
These are practical steps to help Minnesotans with the high cost of living and excessive taxes. Last week, I wrote about Governor Walz’s proposed gun restrictions, and they're worth revisiting. His plan would crack down on law-abiding gun owners with new taxes on guns and ammo, warrantless searches of gun storage in private homes, and other restrictions that infringe on our Second Amendment rights. We're actively fighting these proposals, and I can assure you, they will not pass the legislature. Your constitutional rights will be protected. Next week in St. Paul, we'll start seeing bills move out of committees and onto the Senate floor. I'll keep you updated on the progress. Thanks for reading, |
Affordability for Minnesotans: Lower Tab Fees, Property Tax Caps, and No Tax on Tips or Overtime |
|
If you think your vehicle tabs are too high, you're not imagining it. The graphic below shows how Minnesota compares to our neighboring states on tab fees. The contrast is stark. Minnesota drivers need real relief from these high costs. This week, Senate Republicans introduced a bill that would reduce tab fees and save the average driver more than $800 over five years. But it's not just drivers impacted by high taxes. Homeowners across the state are facing massive property tax increases that are pushing people out of their homes or forcing them to cut back on essentials just to stay in their homes. That's why our affordability plan targets these areas too. In addition to cutting tab fees, we're proposing a cap on property tax rates and eliminating state taxes on tips and overtime pay. President Trump eliminated federal taxes on tips and overtime, and it's time Minnesota does the same so families keep more of what they earn. These are practical, commonsense steps to make life more affordable for Minnesotans right now. |

Gov. Walz’s Gun Restrictions Crack Down on Legal Gun Owners |
|
Gov. Walz’s “gun violence prevention package” is a deceptive name because what it really does is crack down on law-abiding Minnesota gun owners. In Minnesota, the #1 charge that is dropped is felony possession of a weapon. We don’t need the Governor’s new proposals that punish legal gun owners, the laws that are on the books need to actually be enforced! |
