Senator Keri Heintzeman (R- Nisswa) has joined Minnesota Republican legislators calling for Democratic Gov. Tim Walz to resign immediately, citing widespread fraud, mismanagement and declining education outcomes during his administration in an open letter sent to his office. 

Sen. Heintzeman said the call for resignation stems from a desire to restore trust in state government. "Minnesotans deserve leadership that puts their needs first and owns up to challenges with honesty and humility," Heintzeman said. "This isn't about partisanship; it's about healing our state and ensuring a brighter future for families, students and taxpayers. The time has come to say, ‘enough is enough.’ We hope Gov. Walz will do the right thing and step aside gracefully."

The letter, dated January 2 and signed by 38 GOP lawmakers, accuses Walz of failing to address fraud that may have cost more than $9 billion in Medicaid funds, ignoring warnings and retaliating against whistleblowers at the Department of Human Services. It also criticizes the governor for overseeing the loss of an $18 billion state surplus, now replaced by a looming multibillion-dollar deficit, and for allowing student test scores to stagnate or decline despite record education spending.

Lawmakers further faulted Walz for deflecting blame onto President Donald Trump rather than taking responsibility for the issues. "We are committed to transparency, accountability and the well-being of our constituents. For the good of Minnesota, we call on you to resign immediately,” the letter states.
