Howe statement on “disappointing” end of regular Session

The Minnesota Senate and House both adjourned last night with numerous budget bills left to be considered. As a result, a future Special Session will be called in the coming weeks.

Senator Jeff Howe (R-Rockville) released the following statement in response:

“The fact that we couldn’t get our work done on time is disappointing, but I want folks to be aware the reason we are so far behind is because House Democrats failed to show up to work for the first three weeks of Session. They opted to get paid not to work, and now, the legislature is behind because of it. Who suffers for this? Minnesota families.

“Because of their political games, we have a lot of work left on the table – some of the biggest pieces of our budget are left undone: Health and Human Services, Education, Taxes, Transportation… All things that Minnesotans expect us to get done for the well-being of our state.

“As we head into special session, we need to prioritize a workable budget that addresses our $6 billion deficit. Democrats need to stop playing the partisan political games. Minnesotans expect us to get this important work done sooner rather than later.”
