Applications sought for University of Minnesota Board of Regents

ST. PAUL, MN – The Joint Legislative Committee on Higher Education is seeking applications to fill a vacancy on the Board of Regents for the University of Minnesota. The opening will be for the Board’s First Congressional District seat. To be considered, applicants must reside in Minnesota’s First Congressional District and would be elected for the remaining three years of the current term, which expires in 2021.

The Joint Legislative Committee, chaired by Sen. Michelle Fischbach (R-Paynesville) and Rep. Bud Nornes (R-Fergus Falls), will meet to interview and screen applicants and will recommend one nominee to the Joint Convention of the Legislature. The Joint Convention will then elect the new Regent.

The Board of Regents is the governing body of the University of Minnesota system and its five campuses in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, Rochester, and the Twin Cities. Regents are unpaid and serve six-year, staggered terms.
