Senator Westrom: Democrat proposal to ban egg hatching in Minnesota schools is a bad-hatched idea

What came first, the chicken or the egg? If certain Democrats have their way, our students will never know.

A bill introduced this session, SF 4702, seeks to ban the hatching of all birds in Minnesota schools, both public and charter. This legislation is authored in the Senate by Senator John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin), and it is referred to the Senate Agriculture, Broadband, and Rural Development Committee.

Senator Torrey Westrom (R-Alexandria) released the following statement and video on this proposal:

“One of the Democrat’s latest rotten ideas is to ban egg hatching from our schools. This is no ‘yolk.’

“I have recently received emails from agriculture educators who are opposed to this legislation, and the FFA has also shared their strong opposition. Our schools should be about education and life learning, and I believe that watching birds hatch in our schools is an important life lesson.

“This proposal has run ‘afowl.’ It’s important to continue speaking up so we can try to stop this rotten idea that Democrats have hatched up.”
