Minnesota State Sen. Carla Nelson (R-Rochester) returned to the Capitol on Monday, February 12, for the start of the 2024 legislative session. The agenda will be determined in part by the upcoming February revenue forecast detailing the state’s financial outlook, but is expected to include an infrastructure-focused bonding bill, a bill to correct last session’s controversial school resource officer law, and a fix for last year’s $352 million tax bill error. A report in December from the Minnesota Management and Budget Office projected a small surplus for the upcoming session but a $2.5 billion structural deficit in the following two-year budget cycle.
“I am glad to be back at the Capitol, representing the people of Olmsted and Dodge Counties!” Senator Nelson said. “It is an immense honor that you have placed your trust and faith in me to serve you in St. Paul, and I am excited to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address the priorities that Minnesotans elected us to tackle.”
