Senator Jasinski kicks off the 2024 legislative session

Minnesota State Senator John Jasinski (R-Faribault) returned to the capitol on Monday, February 12 for the beginning of the 2024 session of the Minnesota Legislature. The agenda and debate this session will be shaped in large part by the forthcoming February revenue forecast, scheduled to be released later this month, which will detail the state’s financial picture. A report issued by the office of Minnesota Management and Budget last December projected a small budget surplus for the upcoming session and a $2.5 billion deficit in the following budget cycle.

“Last session was one of the most partisan, divisive, and controversial in memory,” Senator Jasinski said. “I hope that approach changes this year, because our success as a state depends on cooperation and bipartisanship. So I really hope my friends on the other side of the aisle will be more willing to work together and more open to constructive feedback this year. It is for the good of the state.”

Sen. Jasinski is serving his third term and is the ranking Republican on the Senate’s Transportation Committee. He represents Senate District 19, which includes all or parts of Goodhue, Rice, Steele, and Waseca Counties.
