Senator Hall’s Purple Heart legislation passes off Senate Floor

On Tuesday, May 1, legislation authored by Senator Dan Hall (R-Burnsville) to honor Minnesota’s veterans and Purple Heart recipients passed off the Senate Floor with a unanimous 67-0 vote. The bill, SF 3262, would allow counties and cities to designate themselves as a Purple Heart County or City, create reserved parking for Purple Heart recipients, and proclaim August 7th as Purple Heart Day.

“This is a simple bill that tries to go a little way to show our profound respect for veterans who have sacrificed themselves and come away with injuries while protecting our country,” said Sen. Dan Hall. “In this day in age, our veterans are not receiving as much gratitude as they once did. This bill reaffirms our support of them and allows us a community to reflect and bring some attention to the men and women who have endured physical harm and given their lives for us.”

SF 3262 does not require any additional funding from the legislature but instead relies on donations from the communities that choose to participate. With its passage in the Senate, the legislation now heads to the House for their vote, before it can make its way to the Governor’s desk.
