Sen. Koran appointed to serve on two Senate subcommittees

St. Paul – Senator Mark Koran will take on a new role at the Senate with recent appointments to two important subcommittees. The freshman senator from North Branch was selected by Majority Leader Paul Gazelka to serve on both the Subcommittee on Employee Relations as well as the MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee.

The Subcommittee on Employee Relations has a variety of responsibilities, including providing interim approval of negotiated agreements, arbitration awards, and compensation plans for employees in the executive branch. It also monitors the state civil service system and makes recommendations regarding certain state and local government salaries.

“With experience working in both the public and private sector, I think I will bring a unique, well-rounded viewpoint to this subcommittee,” said Sen. Koran. “I’m excited to be part of these discussions with my colleagues and look forward to the responsibilities ahead.”

In addition, Sen. Koran will serve on the MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee. The Committee was established in 2013 to oversee the implementation and operation of MNsure. With the state health care system on the brink of collapse, the Committee will be reviewing any necessary changes in policy that will address future challenges in the individual market.
