This week the Senate passed a bipartisan veterans bill that authorizes a new Referral Bonus Program. The program would provide bonuses for referrals that lead to enlistment in the Minnesota National Guard.
“Authorize” is the key word there – the bill doesn’t require the National Guard to implement the program; it merely gives them the option to do so as a way to assist in recruitment efforts. A handful of other states have launched similar state-funded programs.
This program isn’t just about increasing numbers. It is a practical way to show veterans they have our strong support by rewarding those who help us grow our military community.
