Senate Republicans to Ethics Chair: Invite Minneapolis School Board Members to Wednesday Hearing

UPDATE:
A Probable Cause Hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM in State Capitol Room 112 regarding the Hayden ethics complaints. Questions may be directed to Catherine Ryan at catherine.ryan@senate.mn or 651-297-5393.

On Wednesday, the Senate Ethics Committee will hold a hearing to decide whether there is probable cause to investigate Senator Jeff Hayden (D-Minneapolis) for two violations: misusing taxpayer funding by accepting trips and other perks as a member of the Board of Community Action of Minneapolis, and using his elected office to intimidate members of the Minneapolis School Board.
In preparation for the hearing, Senate Republicans sent a letter to the Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee, Senator Sandy Pappas (D-St. Paul), urging the committee to take the following actions:
  1. Formally request that Minneapolis School Board members are present and ready to testify at the hearing.
  2. Request the board minutes and financial records from Community Action of Minneapolis.
Senate Republican Leader David Hann (R-Eden Prairie), one of the complainants, stated, “In order to make a determination of probable cause, the Subcommittee on Ethical Conduct will need to have the complete set of facts and testimony available.”
