Friends and neighbors,
This week I added an amendment to the Senate’s transportation budget proposal that raises the legal weight limit for ATVs from 2,000 to 3,000 pounds. This is a practical change to bring our laws in line with how these vehicles are being produced.
As more side-by-sides and electric ATVs hit the trails, the old limit no longer makes sense. The battery systems and enclosed cabs that people want, especially for cold-weather riding, make these vehicles heavier. Without this small update, a lot of Minnesotans would be unfairly limited in their use of these newer, safer, and more family-friendly ATVs.
