Holmstrom Week 6 Updates

Friends and neighbors,

When I got to the Capitol, I made a commitment to focus on the issues that matter most to the people I represent.

This week, the Senate spent a significant amount of time debating a proposal to allow children on the Senate floor. While I understand this is an important issue for some of my colleagues who are parents, many constituents reached out to me wondering why the Senate was focusing on this while we continue to face serious challenges like fraud in state government and rising costs for families.

I was struck by the fact that, after years of creating policies that have driven up the cost of childcare for Minnesota families, Democrats now wanted an exception for themselves. It’s a difficult look when lawmakers create rules that apply to everyone else but not to them. In response I offered an amendment to extend the same accommodation to our hard-working legislative staff. If we’re going to change the rules, they should apply fairly to everyone in the building.

My hope is that as we move forward, we stay focused on the issues Minnesotans care about most, like making life more affordable for working families, stopping fraud in state government, and keeping our communities safe.

Thanks for reading and for your continued support,
Michael

Marxist figurehead loses recognition day

The Senate this week unanimously passed legislation to repeal the state observance of Cesar Chavez Day.

For far too long, this state has honored a man whose Marxist ideology and conduct were deeply troubling. It’s encouraging to see this body finally recognize the evil at the root of that ideology and take action to remove this stain from our calendar.

Cesar Chavez Day had been recognized on March 31 since 2014, when it was passed by a Democrat-controlled House and Senate and signed into law by Democrat Governor Mark Dayton.

Happy National Agriculture Day

Tuesday marked National Agriculture Day.

As a member of the Senate Ag Committee, I see firsthand the HUGE impact farmers have on our state and the country.

Thanks to the whole Ag industry for everything you do!

Traffic Violation Scam Targets Minnesotans

There is an ongoing scam that is notifying Minnesotans they have an unpaid traffic violation and must either appear in court ASAP or pay a fine. These texts look like they're from Hennepin County District Court and even give the Minneapolis courthouse address.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!

Neither the Minnesota Judicial Branch nor law enforcement will ever text or call you to demand money for a traffic fine.

If you receive a text like this:

  • Do not click on any links.
  • Do not give out your credit card number or make any payment.
  • Do not share any personal information, such as your social security number.
  • Report the call to your local law enforcement agency.

If you have fallen victim to this scam, file a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center

MN Fraud Files

Originally created during the eight-year term of Gov. Mark Dayton, Center of the American Experiment’s Scandal Tracker was reopened to account for the ever-growing list of frauds and scandals perpetuated under the Tim Walz administration.
