Holmstrom urges DOJ to open criminal investigation into Walz, Ellison over Minnesota fraud crisis

Senator Michael Holmstrom (R–Buffalo) today urged President Trump and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to open a criminal investigation into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison for their roles in the state’s ongoing, systemic fraud crisis.

“These schemes raise unavoidable questions about the conduct, nonfeasance, and potential complicity of the state’s highest officials,” said Sen. Holmstrom. “The continued inaction by these leaders, despite repeated warnings and mounting evidence, warrants criminal scrutiny.”

Federal authorities, including the FBI, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Agriculture, Small Business Administration, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota, are currently investigating fraud or have taken action, including freezing payments to high-risk programs flagged for abuse.

“Minnesotans are struggling, and the fallout from this fraud reaches far beyond financial loss. Lives are being ruined and communities are being torn apart,” said Sen. Holmstrom. “I urge the DOJ to investigate the actions and inactions of Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison and to pursue all appropriate charges if violations are found.”
