I recently recorded a short video about two major developments involving transgender medical procedures for minors. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch it.
First, a jury in New York awarded $2 million to a young woman who underwent a double mastectomy at age 16 and later detransitioned. The jury found that the psychologist and surgeon failed to follow proper medical standards before approving and performing the surgery. This is the first detransitioner case in the country to go to trial and result in a plaintiff’s verdict, and there are now dozens of similar lawsuits pending.
Second, Children’s Minnesota announced it plans to pause prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to minors. Mental health and supportive services will continue, but the pause on these prescriptions is a significant positive development for kids here in Minnesota.
