Gruenhagen: Democrat Blackout Bill raises energy costs, lowers reliability

Senator Glenn Gruenhagen (R-Glencoe) today issued the following statement about the passage of Senate File 4, the 100% carbon-free by 2040 mandate, also known as the Minnesota Blackout bill.

“Democrats should not have rushed their extreme, risky, and divisive Blackout energy bill through the Senate. It’s called the Blackout bill for a reason – it includes only unreliable alternative energy sources, with no natural gas or nuclear energy. If we ever experience severe weather in Minnesota, our entire regional grid will be put in jeopardy due to the lack of dependable energy sources. The price Minnesotans will pay for energy is going to skyrocket.“

Republicans have a better plan, called the A+ Energy Plan. It focuses on delivering dependable and affordable energy that is always available by utilizing a blend of energy sources like nuclear, renewable gas, and hydroelectric power. It’s a much smarter approach.”
