Gruenhagen: A heartbreaking day

Today is a heartbreaking day. At about 3 a.m. on Saturday morning, Senate Democrats passed their first extreme abortion bill. Far from merely codifying Roe, as they claim, House File 1 allows abortions for any reason right up to the moment of birth. It contains no protections for women or babies.

We offered amendments to try to make the bill far less murderous and extreme, including:

  • Clarifying that life begins at conception
  • Allowing unborn babies to have anesthesia
  • Ban on late-term abortions
  • Ban on partial-birth abortion
  • Ban on abortions during active labor
  • Ban on abortions of babies with down syndrome
  • Ban on sterilization of minors
  • Requirement of licensing and inspection of abortion facilities
  • Requirement of parental notification for minors

Democrats rejected all of these amendments.

The feedback I have been getting is clear: this is not what Minnesotans want.

I made a few comments about this bill right before the vote. I hope you will take a moment to watch:

Let’s all pray for women & unborn children. God Bless.

Sincerely,

Glenn
