Groundbreaking begins Limmer’s bill to complete Hwy 610

ST. PAUL – Today Senator Warren Limmer helped break ground for final portion of the Highway 610 extension project connecting 610 with Interstate 94. After more than 50 years of planning and 30 years of construction, the project is ready to begin its final phase of construction. Senator Limmer has been the persistent Chief Author of Hwy 610 legislation during his time in the legislature.

“I am so glad I could be here to celebrate the final phase of the Highway 610 extension project,” Limmer said. “There are so many people to thank for their hard work over the years, and it’s remarkable that over 50 years, the support has never waned. This new road is a tremendous asset for commerce, job development, and it complements Maple Grove Hospital and need for emergency vehicle access; it serves all of Maple Grove and the entire region.”

Extending 610 to connect with 94 began with a preliminary study in 1973. Construction first began in 1986. Through federal, state, and local funding over 50 years, the project was supported by the cities of Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids, and Maple Grove as well as Hennepin and Anoka Counties. Construction is expected to be completed in 2025.
