Green issues statement regarding damaging storms that ripped through Northern Minnesota

Over the weekend, damaging storms ripped through the northern half of Minnesota causing devastation for many. For Beltrami County, the storm brought winds between 100-120 mph which damaged numerous structures, led to power outages, and made many roads impassable. Christopher Muller, director of Beltrami County Emergency Management recently told news outlets, While I am happy no one was hurt, I’m sad our city will never look the same.

Senator Steve Green (R-Fosston) released the following statement in response:

“The city of Bemidji and surrounding counties were recently hit with unprecedented hurricane force winds. The result can only be described as devastating. Residents took shelter and praise God, as of now there were no casualties. But the damage will not be soon forgotten.

Like always, Minnesotan’s have stepped up to the task of cleanup and rebuilding. Crews have been working tirelessly to restore electricity and clear debris. The grocery stores and other businesses have begun reopening. Thank you to the men and women on the ground, as well as the community leaders, who have stepped up to begin this long process.

As cleanup begins and damage in uncovered, I have been in contact with the Bemidji Mayor and County Commissioners regarding their plans going forward. I appreciate the State’s willingness to step up in this time of need.

There is still much to be done. But everyone in the are should take comfort knowing the community is standing together.”
