Several road constructions projects in Goodhue and Wabasha Counties will be completed thanks to funding included in last year’s landmark transportation bill. As a result of that legislation, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced a list of more than 200 road and bridge improvements valued at more than $1 billion that will begin in 2018.

State Senator Mike Goggin (R-Red Wing) was a staunch advocate for the transportation bill last session, which marked the largest investment in roads and bridges in a decade. The bill paid for all improvements using existing funding, and did not raise gas taxes or license tab fees – a strong point of contention with Gov. Dayton.

“For years, I watched as a private citizen as the legislature ignored Minnesota’s failing roads and bridges,” said Senator Goggin. “In my first year as a senator, I wanted to make sure our transportation system was finally given the attention it needed. I’m glad that work is already paying off for the folks who live, work, and play in southeast Minnesota.”

The following projects in Goodhue and Wabasha Counties will be completed.

Hwy 19 — Cannon Falls
Description: Bridge replacement
Construction dates: May 7 to July 27, 2018
Traffic impacts: Detour during bridge replacement. Westbound Hwy 19 route is Hwy 52 north to Dakota County Road 86 west to Hwy 56 south to Hwy 19. Eastbound is reverse route.

Hwy 58 and Hwy 52 — Zumbrota
Description: Bridge replacement and roadway approach improvement
Construction dates: Summer 2017 – summer 2018

Hwy 63 — Red Wing bridges
Description: Rehabilitate existing bridges, identify a preferred alternative for a bridge crossing between Red Wing, Minn. and Wisconsin
Status: Construction begins May 2017. Anticipated end date August 2020.
