Friends and neighbors,
This week I successfully added an amendment to the Senate’s Jobs and Labor bill to extend unemployment benefits for miners who are about to be laid off from the Minorca and HibTac mines. Extending these UI benefits will help about 650 workers who are about to face uncertain months ahead.
The Range has been through this before. My dad worked at Minorca for 33 years, and I still remember how hard the 1980s layoffs hit our community. When mines go idle, it doesn’t just affect the workers, it affects the entire region.
This amendment passed with strong bipartisan support, and I’m grateful to Senators Murphy, Hauschild, and Champion for working with me to get it done.
