Chamberlain statement on Met Council final decision to not bring controversial bus route to White Bear Lake

The Metropolitan Council recently confirmed it will not bring the controversial Rush Line Bus Rapid Transit Route to downtown White Bear Lake, bowing to fierce, overwhelming public criticism from White Bear Lake residents who did not want the bus line in their city.

Senator Roger Chamberlain (R-Lino Lakes) issued the following statement:

“I am glad the Met Council has officially decided not to bring the unpopular bus line to White Bear Lake. Congratulations to everyone who lives in White Bear Lake and worked to stop the bus line: you did it! Your hard work, your tenacity is what made this result possible. The public opposition to the Bus Rapid Transit line is among the strongest of any issue I have experienced during my time in the legislature.

We fully support public transit, but it must be smart and responsible. The fact is that it was never a smart idea to run this bus line through beautiful downtown White Bear Lake. It was never supported by the community and it never should have even been considered. I’m glad the Met Council came to their senses.

“I will continue to keep an eye on this project. There is talk of bringing the bus line to Vadnais Heights instead. We must make sure residents of that community are protected just like White Bear Lake residents.

“Thank you again for your hard work.”
