Benson bill encourages women to view ultrasounds prior to having an abortion

Under a new proposal from Senator Michelle Benson (R-Ham Lake), expectant mothers would be offered an opportunity to view an ultrasound if one were performed at any time prior to an abortion. The bill would not require an ultrasound be performed; it only applies if an ultrasound is being performed during the normal course of treatment. Mothers would not be required to view their ultrasounds.

“The decision to have an abortion is life changing for mothers and fathers as it ends the life of their unborn child,” said Sen. Benson. “I hope that helping women be fully informed about their choice will allow them to choose life for their unborn child.”
