Gruenhagen: Socialists of America are taking over the Democrat Party

Friends and neighbors,

If you have been watching any news coverage of recent elections, you have probably noticed an alarming trend of the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) within the Democratic Party that is happening both here in Minnesota and nationally.

The DSA is in the middle of its strongest election cycle ever. DSA candidates have won or advanced in more than 30 primary races this year already. DSA candidates have won nearly half of their races so far in the 2026 midterm elections. And there’s the prominent win of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani last November that kicked off this socialist surge.

The Socialists’ platform as rooted in communism and Marxism. Here are just a few of their positions:

  • Defunding police and abolishing prisons, including releasing current prisoners
  • Higher taxes
  • Ending border enforcement, which would let criminals and illegal drugs enter freely
  • Universal rent control and guaranteed housing
  • Extending voting rights to non-citizens, including people in the country illegally
  • Eliminating the Electoral College, which means large population centers on the coasts would control national elections

Whatever you want to call it, socialism ultimately leads to economic collapse, with power and wealth concentrated among a small group while everyone else suffers.

Finally, I wanted to let you know that there will be a temporary pause to my email updates. In election years, Senate policy prohibits us from sending out official mass mailings more than 60 days after adjournment sine die. This includes email updates and legislative newsletters. Therefore, this will be my final email update until January.

However, my office remains open. If you need assistance or have question or feedback, I’ll be happy to help. I’ll also continue to be active on social media, especially Facebook, which you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/SenatorGlennGruenhagen

If you have any questions, please reach out any time.

God Bless,

Senator Glenn Gruenhagen
