Friends and neighbors,
Our healthcare system is very clearly in crisis, with premiums and deductibles climbing, networks shrinking, and access getting harder to come by. The Democrats’ answer to this problem seems to be giveaways that only serve as band-aids for people who are struggling to afford their care.
What we really need to do is address the root cause. Namely, our sprawling and unnavigable healthcare bureaucracy, which was made significantly worse by the creation of Obamacare. The federal government built a massive bureaucracy. The state had to build one to deal with the federal one. Then insurance companies and hospitals had to build their own to deal with both.
The result is that a huge chunk of every premium dollar gets eaten up by administrative overhead before it ever reaches a doctor or patient.
This year, I again offered an amendment that will cut through the bureaucracy and lower your healthcare costs. Under my proposal, patients would choose their own doctor and provider without needing approval from a middleman. Insurers would reimburse doctors and hospitals at sustainable rates, so providers could stay in business and keep their doors open.
This approach could result in a 20-30% reduction in both premiums and deductibles.
We know our current healthcare system is broken; it’s time we try something new. Unfortunately, my amendment fell one vote short.
