Holmstrom Update April 17, 2026

Friends and neighbors,

I hope you’ve had a good week.

We’re heading into the final stretch of session, and today (Friday, April 17) is the third major deadline. That means all the big spending and finance bills have to get out of committee by 5 p.m. or they’re most likely dead for the year.

So far, this has been a slow session. Only a handful of bills have passed. But, next week we’ll start to pick up. Less time in committee, more time on the Senate floor taking up bigger bills.

In this newsletter, you’ll find updates on road construction in Wright County, tax day reflections, disaster response tips after the recent hailstorm, and information on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Thanks for reading,
Michael

Wright County Construction Update

2026 construction season is underway and many drivers will be impacted by the road projects – whether it be lane closure delays or the need for detour routes.

Wright County GIS has an interactive Highway Construction Viewer map of all MnDOT, county and city road projects for 2026 that provide links to the project webpages, information on the scope of the work and timeframes for construction completion.

CLICK HERE to see the road construction map and get the information you need for construction that will impact you.

Tax Day was this week, when we were forced to hand over our hard-earned money to a government that blew up spending by 40%, created $10 billion in new taxes, and still can’t show us what we got for it all (except a Quality Learing Center).

Somehow they think the answer is even more taxes.

Disaster Response Information

It's severe weather season, and you might be wondering what to do if there is damage to your property.

Key tips for filing insurance claims to your property:

1. Contact your insurance company immediately.

2. Wait for the company’s adjuster before you or anyone starts working to remove or repair or replace property.

3. Inventory your damage.

4. Take notes of who you talk with and what they say from your insurance company, adjusters or repair services. Note dates, names and contact information.

5. Avoid scammers or high-pressure sales tactics if you are contacted by someone you don’t know, such as salespeople going door-to-door in areas hit by storms.

Question or complaint about your insurance company?

If you have questions, complaints or problems with your insurance company, contact the Minnesota Department of Commerce Consumer Services Center:

By phone: 651-539-1600 or 800-657-3602

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, provides residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of their unused or expired medications at local collection sites.

For residents who want to safely dispose of medications outside of this biannual event, MyOldMeds offers a free, year-round locator that connects people to 605 secure disposal sites across Minnesota. The easy-to-use locator helps quickly find nearby drop-off locations just by entering their zip code. The site also includes a Minnesota resource page with guidance on proper disposal practices and safe medication management.

MN Fraud Files

Originally created during the eight-year term of Gov. Mark Dayton, Center of the American Experiment’s Scandal Tracker was reopened to account for the ever-growing list of frauds and scandals perpetuated under the Tim Walz administration.
