Friends and neighbors,
Recently the Senate passed a $40 million bill to pay the overdue rent and utilities of Minnesotans who chose not to go to work the last few months.
There are many reasons this is a bad idea. Here are two:
First, illegal aliens are eligible the receive your tax dollars. We tried to offer an amendment to at least restrict the money to legal residents, but Democrats rejected it.
Second, the bill doesn't fix anything. It just throws money at the problem --- a problem that Democrats created in the first place. When you grow government by 40% in two years and pile on $10+ billion in new taxes and fees, the cost of everything goes up. When you impose expensive mandates and red tape, it drives up the cost of housing. Their policies hurt the very people they claim to be helping.
The only real solution is to stop telling people not to go to work, stop the mandates, stop the overregulation, and stop the green energy requirements that have made it so expensive to build housing in this state.
I wanted to share a quick video from the floor discussion on this bill. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/keSmTzIGp4Y
Governor Walz should veto this bill if it ever gets to his desk. Thankfully, that’s unlikely given the tied House.
As always, I appreciate you staying engaged on issues like this. If you have any questions, please reach out any time.
God Bless,
