Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) today presented the state’s February budget forecast. It shows an initial surplus of $3.7 billion this budget, with continued structural imbalances impacting the bottom line in the future. Sen. Bill Weber (R-Luverne) released the following statement:
“Under the Democrat trifecta, state government grew by an unprecedented 40% and taxes skyrocketed by $10 billion. They went on a reckless spending spree that wiped out the entire $19 billion surplus and put our state on a course toward financial crisis.
“Today’s forecast shows improvement, thanks to a thriving national economy. Though the outlook may be hopeful, it does not mean we can sit on the sidelines.
“Minnesotans are demanding action to protect taxpayer dollars and end government waste, fraud, and abuse under Governor Walz’s leadership. This session must focus on living within our means, cutting unnecessary costs and mandates, and holding government accountable.”
