Senator Michael Holmstrom (R–Buffalo) today urged the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) to take immediate action on Wright County’s Community Corrections Act (CCA) comprehensive plan, which the county submitted on October 9.
“The law is clear. The DOC needs to immediately review Wright County’s CCA plan and issue a determination,” said Sen. Holmstrom. “County-administered CCA programs are more cost effective for taxpayers, they improve public safety, and they provide better outcomes for probationers under local jurisdiction.”
Wright County was the largest county in Minnesota still under DOC administration before transitioning to CCA status on November 10. Under Minnesota Statutes 401.06, Subdivision 4, the DOC Commissioner is required to review the plan and issue a determination.
The DOC has acknowledged no concerns with Wright County’s submission but has still not acted. If the DOC intends to reject the plan, state law requires a hearing.
“The people of Wright County expect a high-standard CCA program, and the county is prepared to deliver it,” said. Sen. Holmstrom.
