EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. – Senator Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) was recognized by the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association (MSFCA) for his leadership to protect the Fire Safety Account, ensuring the funds remain available for their intended purpose of supporting firefighters across the state.
"The Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association is honored to present Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson with a Legislative Award for 2025. Senator Johnson is a steadfast supporter of the Minnesota Fire Service, and in 2025 he was instrumental in keeping the Fire Safety Account intact during the Legislative session,” said Albertville Fire Chief Eric Bullen, who also serves as President of the State Fire Chiefs Association. “The Fire Safety Account is the critical funding source for Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division, the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Training and Education, the State Response Teams, and significantly impacts the training funds for every Fire Department in the State. We are appreciative of Senator Johnson’s efforts and his continuing support of the Minnesota Fire Service."
The award was presented at the East Grand Forks Fire Department, where several fire chiefs joined the event, including East Grand Forks Fire Chief Eric Boushee, Fire Chief Bullen, and Edina Fire Chief Andrew Slama, along with members of the East Grand Forks Fire Department.
“Fire departments depend on the Fire Safety Account to provide training, equipment, and resources that keep our communities safe,” said Senator Johnson. “I’m grateful for the dedication of our firefighters and for the opportunity to support them in their work. Even if you never have a fire emergency, we all rest easier knowing the fire department is ready to respond at a moment’s notice."
