Senator Julia Coleman (R–Waconia) issued the following statement regarding the reports of a mass shooting this morning at Annunciation Church and School in South Minneapolis:
This morning, I dropped off my children at school, hugged them goodbye, and watched them skip happily into their classrooms. My heart breaks for the parents who shared this same morning but are now facing the unimaginable loss of their children. My thoughts are with the families, teachers, staff, first responders, and the entire Minneapolis community grieving this tragedy. There are no easy answers, but I know our children—our most precious assets—must be protected.
As we await further details that will help shape meaningful action, I’m reflecting on my responsibility as an elected official. Now is the time to make school security funding a priority. I’m engaging with legislators, community leaders, and families to chart a path forward. This isn’t a time for partisan politics or blame. It’s a time for mourning, honest dialogue, and unity as Minnesotans. I’m praying for the victims and working to ensure our children can learn and grow without fear.
